Gig Driver Profit Calculator - Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Careem and More
This free gig driver profit calculator shows what you really earn after fuel, vehicle costs and expenses. Whether you drive for Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Uber Eats, Careem or any delivery app, the number on the app is not your pay. Enter your earnings, hours, distance and costs to see your net profit, net pay per hour and per mile or km.
How Net Profit Is Calculated
- Fuel cost = (Distance / Fuel economy) x Fuel price (for MPG), or Distance x L/100km / 100 x Price (metric)
- Running cost = Distance x Other cost per mile or km
- Net profit = Earnings - Fuel - Running cost - Other expenses
- Net hourly pay = Net profit / Hours worked
Example: An 8 Hour Shift
You earn 180 in 8 hours and drive 150 miles in a car that does 28 MPG with fuel at 3.50 per gallon, and your other running cost is 0.10 per mile.
- Fuel: (150 / 28) x 3.50 = about 18.75
- Running cost: 150 x 0.10 = 15.00
- Net profit: about 146.25, or 18.28 per hour
Ways To Earn More Per Hour
- Drive during busy hours and avoid long empty trips between jobs.
- Track your cost per mile for a whole month, not just fuel.
- Decline low-paying trips that cost more in distance than they earn.
- Keep your car well maintained to avoid expensive repairs.
- Set aside money for taxes from every payout.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: How do I calculate my real profit as an Uber or DoorDash driver?
A: Take your total earnings (including tips) and subtract fuel, vehicle running costs (maintenance, tires, depreciation, insurance share) and other expenses. Divide by hours worked for your real hourly pay.
Q: What costs should I include besides fuel?
A: Maintenance, tires, oil changes, insurance, depreciation, phone, parking and tolls. A per-mile or per-km running cost makes it simple to include these.
Q: What is a good net hourly wage for a gig driver?
A: It depends on your city and costs, but many drivers find their net hourly pay is far lower than the gross figure shown in the app. Track your own numbers to decide which hours are worth working.
Q: How do I find my fuel cost per mile?
A: Divide the fuel price per gallon by your car's miles per gallon. For metric, multiply litres per 100 km by the fuel price per litre and divide by 100 for cost per km.
Q: Is the standard mileage rate the same as my real cost?
A: The tax mileage rate is a tax deduction figure, not necessarily your real cost. Use your own cost per mile for decisions, and check your local tax rules for deductions.
Q: Does this calculator include taxes?
A: No. Self-employed drivers usually owe income and self-employment taxes, so keep part of your profit aside.
