What is a video background remover?
A video background remover finds the person in every frame and separates them from what is behind them. Once the person is separated, the background can be swapped, blurred or filled with a flat colour. Doing this by hand frame by frame would take days. A neural network does it automatically, dozens of times per second.
This tool uses a lightweight person-segmentation model that runs inside your browser with WebAssembly and, where available, your graphics card. Because nothing is sent to a server, it is fast to start, private and free.
How to remove the background from a video
- Drop your video into the box or click to choose it. MP4, WebM and MOV up to 500 MB are supported.
- Pick the New background: green screen, solid colour, blurred original or your own image.
- Slide Preview frame to a moment with the person clearly visible and press Preview this frame.
- Adjust Cut sensitivity and Edge softness until the edges look right.
- Optionally enhance the clip with sharpness, brightness, contrast and colour, or press Auto enhance.
- Choose resolution and frame rate, then press Process full video.
- When it finishes, watch the result and press Download video.
Green screen: the way to get a transparent video
Normal video files cannot store transparency in a way every browser can record. The professional workaround is a green screen. Choose Green screen as the background, download the video and place it on a track above your new footage in an editor. Then apply the chroma key effect and pick the green. In CapCut it is called Chroma key, in Premiere Pro Ultra Key and in DaVinci Resolve 3D Keyer.
The green used is a standard broadcast-style green (#00b140). If your subject wears green clothing, choose a solid blue instead and key out the blue.
Video enhancer: sharper, brighter, cleaner
- Sharpness adds edge contrast to every frame so faces and text look crisper.

These are real-time video filters. They improve what the camera captured and make the video look cleaner, but they do not invent new detail. Upscaling a small 480p clip to 1080p makes it bigger, not truly sharper in the way a higher-resolution camera would.

Tips for a clean cut-out
- Film in good, even light with the person well lit from the front.
- Use a background with some contrast to the person's clothes and hair, and avoid very busy patterns.
- Keep the camera steady. Handheld shake makes edges move.
- Start with Preview this frame on a hard moment, such as a raised arm or loose hair, and tune sensitivity there.
- Raise Cut sensitivity if parts of the background stay visible. Lower it if parts of the person disappear.
- Keep Steady edges on to reduce flicker between frames.
Privacy: your video stays on your device
The model, the editing and the recording all run in your browser. Your video is never uploaded to Asaan Tools Pro or any other server. Troubleshooting
- The model does not load: check your internet connection and make sure nothing blocks cdn.jsdelivr.net or storage.googleapis.com, then press Preview this frame again.
- Processing is slow or frames drop: use Chrome or Edge on a laptop, choose Original or 720p, and pick 30 fps.
- Processing paused: browsers pause video work when the tab is hidden. Stay on the tab until it is finished.
- The video will not open: use an MP4 (H.264) or WebM file. Some phone formats such as HEVC are not supported in every browser.
- No timeline in the finished file: files recorded in the browser sometimes lack length information. They still play and import into editors such as CapCut, DaVinci Resolve or VLC.
- The person is partly cut away: lower Cut sensitivity and raise Edge softness a little.
What this tool cannot do
- It cuts out people only, not products, cars or animals.
- It cannot export a transparent video file directly. Use the green screen route.
- It processes at playback speed and needs the tab open and visible.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

Can it make a transparent video?
Not directly. Browsers cannot reliably record video with transparency into a normal MP4 or WebM file. Instead, choose Green screen, download the video and remove the green with the chroma key (Ultra Key) effect in CapCut, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or similar editors. That gives a transparent result in your editor.
What kind of videos work best?
Videos with one or more people: talking-head clips, interviews, tutorials, dance videos, vlogs and presentations. The model is trained to find people, so it will not cut out a product, a car or an animal. For objects and products, use our Image Background Remover on single frames.
How long does processing take?
Processing runs at normal playback speed, so a 1 minute video takes about 1 minute. Keep the tab open and visible, because browsers pause video work in hidden tabs. A short test with Preview this frame lets you check your settings first.
Does it keep the audio?
Yes. The audio of your original video is recorded into the new file. You will not hear it while processing because it is routed straight into the recording.
What does the video enhancer do?
It adjusts sharpness, brightness, contrast and colour on every frame and can scale the output to 720p or Full HD (1080p). It is a classic video-filter enhancer, not a generative AI upscaler, so it improves clarity and colour but cannot add detail that the camera did not capture.
Can I only enhance a video without removing the background?
Yes. Choose Keep original (enhance only) under New background. Processing is then much faster because no person detection is needed.
Which video formats can I upload and download?
You can upload any video your browser can play, usually MP4 (H.264), WebM and MOV. The download is WebM in Chrome, Edge and Firefox, and MP4 in Safari. WebM plays in most editors and phones. If you need MP4 everywhere, convert the file with a free converter or your editing app.
Why do the edges flicker a little?
Each frame is analysed on its own. Keep Steady edges on, raise Edge softness slightly and use Cut sensitivity to find the best balance for your clip. Good light and a plain background behind the person give the cleanest edges.
Which browser and device should I use?
Use Chrome or Edge on a laptop or desktop for the best speed. Firefox works too. Safari supports background removal, but the live enhance filters are limited, so enhancement works best in Chrome, Edge or Firefox. For long videos, plug in your charger.
Is the video file size limited?
You can open videos up to 500 MB. Very long or very high-resolution videos take longer and use more memory, so trim long recordings into shorter clips for the smoothest result.
Can I use my own picture or video call background?
You can use your own picture as the new background. Choose My own image and pick a photo. It is cropped to fill the frame behind the person.
Can I use the result on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok or in ads?
The tool only edits the video you give it. Make sure you own it or have permission to edit and publish it, and follow the rules of the platform and any music or people shown.
